Description:

Huitt-Zollars’ Alexandria, VA office seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead and manage the Electrical Engineering team. This role involves overseeing design projects, supervising staff, and working on multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality electrical design solutions across a range of facilities—including healthcare, transportation, industrial, and institutional projects.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in low and medium-voltage electrical systems, lighting design, and building electrical infrastructure, along with strong leadership and project management skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the electrical engineering team, including staffing forecasts and project assignments.
  • Provide mentorship, training sessions, and performance evaluations for team members.
  • Design electrical systems, lighting, and telecommunications infrastructure for building and site projects.
  • Perform and review electrical design calculations (load, voltage drop, short circuit, etc.).
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and design documents for all project phases.
  • Provide construction phase services and ensure design compliance.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and quality assurance.
  • Lead client communication, proposal preparation, and value engineering reviews.
  • Develop and implement project framework instructions and planning.
  • Track project performance metrics and ensure profitability, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Support business development and participate in winning new work opportunities.
  • Ensure adherence to Huitt-Zollars’ Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers and technical staff.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE); registration in Virginia preferred (NCEES transferable).
  • 10+ years of experience in building electrical systems and infrastructure design.
  • Proficiency with NEC, NFPA, and other electrical standards.
  • Experience leading MEP projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong client relationship and project management skills.
  • Proficiency with Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with EasyPower, SKM, or ETAP software.

Preferred:

  • Experience with USACE UFC criteria and UFGS specifications.
  • Familiarity with Design-Build delivery.
  • Knowledge of high-performance and sustainable electrical systems.
  • Solar/PV system design experience.
  • Background in healthcare, municipal, institutional, and transportation facility projects.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged sitting and computer use.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs).
  • Ability to meet project deadlines and multitask under pressure.
